Understanding Forgiveness and the Consequences of Sin .

My Passion Confessions

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

Forgiveness Grants us Salvation.

Salvation and forgiveness are freely given as we ask God to restore us back to him. Although there are some ways and thoughts that we have to relinquish as we reject our own principles of living. We must give God the principles or habits that we have formed in exchange for His ways. Most of the habits that we have formed are world based or flesh driven; these habits come with baggage’s or consequences. The word of God tell us; “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9 NKJV. To forgive someone is to pardon someone from a wrong. Just as Christ became a sacrifice for our sins; he took on our sins so we can be forgiven. As we forgive and ask Christ to forgive us of our sin we are indeed forgiven. Although the greatest struggle we have is walking out the consequences of the seeds that we have sown. When we give our life over to God (without limiting God) we know he can with one word vanish all consequences that’s in our path. Although this seldom occurs. God uses those poor decisions or seeds that we have sown to prune us through the refiners fire. Forgiveness does not change our principles or our way of reasoning as in how or why we make the decisions we make. We must give our principles over to God so we can become renewed in our thinking and decisions making.

The Consequences of Sin.

There are many instances of seeds sown in our life that produce a negative outcome in our life. Let’s say someone is operating in the sin of fornication; the individual comes to themselves and understands they are operating in sin and makes a choice to turn from their sinful ways. Making the choice to turn away from sin is what salvation is about, however the individual finds out 2-3 months later they have contracted a sexually transmitted disease or maybe they have conceived in pregnancy. Now the act of the sin is forgiven but the consequences or the seed sown is still in the action of reproduction. Forgiveness does not erase the consequences of sin. This process we must walk out. “Don’t delude yourselves: no one makes a fool of God! A person reaps what he sows. Those who keep sowing in the field of their old nature, in order to meet its demands, will eventually reap ruin; but those who keep sowing in the field of the Spirit will reap from the Spirit everlasting life.”Galatians (Gal) 6:7-8 CJB. The sins that we partake of will surely find us out! (Numbers 32:23).

If our sins are done in secret and no one sees the act of the sin how can our sin surely find us? Well, God put in motion the law of reaping and sowing. It’s a universal law that replicates itself in all fashions of the earth, even in the plant and animal life. Every seed sown will surely reproduce itself in multitude. One apple seed will produce a tree full of apples. This is why it’s important for us to walk in holiness before the Lord and sow seeds of honor. “There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak.” Proverbs 14:12-13 MSG. The sudden gratification of sin will later bring sorrow and pain. Once the seed is sown the birthing of the consequences are soon to follow.

“Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.” James 1:15 AMPC. All sin nature aligns with Satan because he is death: nothing good comes from sin.

After we give our life to Christ and make a real effort to changing the path that we are on, while allowing God to redirect our thought process and principles into His righteous ways, we become enlightened to the decisions we have once made. This is where we begin to ask God to forgive us and redirect specific areas of our lives. It’s not enough for us to just repent in general we must understand what our sin nature is and how we were lead down that path of sin. Anything we don’t understand we will find ourselves repeating it again. Understanding the root cause of our sin nature will bring forth deliverance and inner healing. Ultimately stopping the seeds of sin that produce negative consequences in our lives. We know that we can sow seed that produce a sin nature and we can also sow seeds that produce a good seed. When I first came into salvation I explored what it meant to live as a saved person. The Lord lead me to read; “If you live by my decrees and obediently keep my commandments, I will send the rains in their seasons, the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit. You will thresh until the grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting time; you’ll have more than enough to eat and will live safe and secure in your land.” Leviticus 26:3-5 MSG. Now that seemed simple enough. I needed to understand God’s ways and adopt them as my own, forsaking my own ways to fully walk in His ways. However walking in obedience takes a constant surrendering on our part. Our obedience in Christ will silence the forces of darkness that comes against us. This is the greatest way for us to counterattack against the sin and the consequences that we have to endure. If you want to put a fire out, simply stop adding wood to the fire. As we stop sowing seeds of corruption we will begin to reap seeds of obedience. Our land and harvest will yield a peaceable fruit in return. In faith we can obtain great things, however obedience will cause the things we obtained to be sustained in our lives. Sin strips us of our faith promises, sin can cause great delays and stagnation in retrieving what God has promised us. As we posture our heart in obedience, we will be in perfect alignment for the promises of God!

Moments of Confessions:

Father God, I come to you as a sinner asking for your forgiveness in Jesus name. I believe that Jesus paid the price for me to be saved, by your death and resurrection. Every sin that I have committed against you and your word, I repent. Forgive me for every sin I have committed. Lord Jesus deliver me from these sins that has wounded my soul. Every weakness and infirmity that has afflicted me in my soul, I asked in Jesus name that you heal me. I forgive every person that has sinned against me, every person that has hurt or abused me; I forgive them because you have forgiven me. I receive your blood to cover me and set me free from all sins that I have committed. Let my soul remember no more the pains and sins of my yesterday that you have washed with the blood. Fill my soul with the waters of the heaven, seal every opening; leave no room for the enemy to invade. Keep my soul mended to you Holy Spirit. Remove all bitterness, strife, unforgiveness, anger and pride from my soul. Make my soul excellent by your dunamis power. Saturate me with your dunamis power in the Holy Spirit to heal my soul. Holy Spirit be my guide and my teacher. Help me to grow in unity with Jesus Christ. Help me to walk in the power of Jesus Christ. Let my heart give all Glory and honor to God! In Jesus name. Amen!
