So many things come to mind when I think about starting over. Starting over represents a new beginning or a time of refreshing! It can also represent another chance at love, fulfilled life, with an abundance of peace and happiness!
Unfortunately, there’s also a flip side of starting over that reveals time spent in a relationship, job, church or any situation. Starting over instantly makes you think of the years you’ve wasted. Just the thought of this makes starting over not so desirable or even worth it. Many times, you find yourself lingering at the crossroads pondering over the sweat and tears you’ve already sown. Nevertheless, you understand continuing on this path will certainly cost you more of the same!
I remember facing a similar crossroad myself, holding on to hope, realizing better days would never manifest. The decision to live alone in peace or remain in a relationship that was coupled with a continuous cycle of unfaithfulness, one sided affection, no respect, feeling unloved and absolutely no trust! Starting over appeared easier in light of all of the struggles I was already facing. Pondering at my crossroad forced me to make a choice to finally choose me! I remember God whispering to me, “follow after peace…, wherever you find peace, chase after it!” Chasing after peace has been a part of my journey ever since!
An individual must want change within themselves to be a better person for their environment. People make personal changes because they want to add peace to the space they occupy. In turn, one’s efforts to change can make their relationships more sustainable and pliable. Ultimately making life easier to coexist with others.
God is neither the author of confusion nor dysfunction! Often times we give other’s poor behavior traits or life choices access to our lives because we would rather settle for an individual’s dysfunctional trait instead of allowing patience to have its perfect way.
When we decide to start over or leave behind familiar relationships or habits, we must commit to the process! If you’re going to repeat old habits why declare that you’re doing something new? Starting over means to take off the old man, this includes; character traits, mindset’s and emotional bondages.
As you contemplate starting over or if you’re feeling alone with regret I want to leave you with a few pointers I heard from a TikTok influencer:
Don’t go back to anyone or anything you had to pray your way out of!!!
You don’t know pain until you have to force yourself to stop loving someone you still care about!!!
The road in front of you will be different and unfamiliar in many ways. However, as long as God has granted you days ahead there’s still an opportunity for you to heal and grow outside of your current situation. “Follow after peace…, wherever you find peace, chase after it!”
“But you did not learn Christ in this way! If in fact you have [really] heard Him and have been taught by Him, just as truth is in Jesus [revealed in His life and personified in Him], that, regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].” Ephesians 4:20-24 AMP
